FSSAI Organic Logo — How to Get the Jaivik Bharat Label

The “Jaivik Bharat” logo is India’s national organic food symbol for the domestic retail market. It was introduced by FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) to create a single, recognisable mark that Indian consumers can trust when buying organic packaged food. If you sell organic produce in any packaged form in Indian retail — whether through a supermarket, an e-commerce platform, or your own packaging — you need this logo alongside your NPOP or PGS-India certificate.

Having an NPOP or PGS-India certificate alone does not authorise you to use the Jaivik Bharat mark. That requires a separate FSSAI registration and logo licence.

The Jaivik Bharat logo requirement applies to anyone who:

  • Packs and sells organic produce in labelled packaging for retail
  • Processes organic food products (flour, oil, spice powders, snacks) and sells under a brand name
  • Operates an online store selling packaged organic products to Indian consumers

Farmers who sell raw, unpackaged produce directly at markets or farm gates do not need the Jaivik Bharat logo — their NPOP or PGS-India certificate is sufficient for direct sales.

Prerequisite — Valid Organic Certificate

Before applying for the Jaivik Bharat logo, you must hold one of the following:

  • A valid NPOP certificate from an APEDA-accredited certifying body
  • A valid PGS-India certificate from the national portal

You cannot apply for the logo without a current organic certificate. If your certificate is expired or under renewal, the FSSAI application will be rejected.

Step 1 — FSSAI Basic Registration or Licence

If you do not already have an FSSAI number, you need one before applying for the Jaivik Bharat logo:

  • FSSAI Basic Registration (₹100 per year): For businesses with annual turnover below ₹12 lakh. This covers most small-scale organic farmers and micro food processors.
  • FSSAI State Licence (₹2,000–5,000 per year): For turnover between ₹12 lakh and ₹20 crore.
  • FSSAI Central Licence (₹7,500 per year): For large food businesses and exporters.

Most individual farmers and small FPOs qualify for Basic Registration. Apply on the FoSCoS portal (foscos.fssai.gov.in) with your Aadhaar, PAN, and bank account details.

Step 2 — Apply for the Jaivik Bharat Logo Licence on FoSCoS

Once you have your FSSAI registration number, log back into the FoSCoS portal and navigate to the Jaivik Bharat logo application section. You will need to upload:

  • Your FSSAI registration or licence certificate
  • Your valid NPOP or PGS-India certificate
  • A list of products you intend to label with the Jaivik Bharat logo
  • Your business address and packaging unit address

Step 3 — Pay the Logo Licence Fee

The current logo licence fee is ₹5,000 as a one-time payment for the licence term (tied to your organic certificate validity). This fee is non-refundable. Pay directly through the FoSCoS portal using UPI, net banking, or debit card.

Step 4 — Approval in 30 Days

FSSAI typically processes Jaivik Bharat logo applications within 30 days of complete document submission. You will receive an approval letter and a digital copy of the logo file for use on your packaging. The logo must be renewed each time your underlying organic certificate is renewed.

Logo Usage Rules

Using the Jaivik Bharat logo incorrectly is a violation of FSSAI regulations. The rules:

  • Minimum size: 1 cm x 1 cm on any packaging face — the logo must be clearly legible
  • Placement: Must appear on the principal display panel alongside “Certified Organic” text
  • Colour: Must be printed in the official green-and-white format — no colour modifications
  • Products: Logo can only appear on products listed in your approved application. Adding a new product requires a fresh application.
  • Expiry: Stop using the logo immediately if your organic certificate lapses, even if the logo licence itself has not expired

Penalty for Misuse

FSSAI takes misuse of the Jaivik Bharat logo very seriously. Displaying the logo without a valid licence, or using it on products not covered by your approval, is a violation under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The penalty can reach ₹10 lakh for first-time violations and can escalate to criminal prosecution for repeated or large-scale misuse. FSSAI conducts market surveillance through state food safety officers — counterfeit organic claims are a priority enforcement area.
